Donald the Playful Drake

I never imagined that Donald Duck would be so personal and social with me. I’ve carried him and Daffy every day since they were two weeks old. They acted like they hated me picking them up and quaked loudly in horror. But always happy to swim in their little dog dish and later a large metal pan and now their kiddie pool.

Daffy and Donald are all grown up now! And they enjoy getting out of their daytime pen to forage for more bugs and weeds. You can tell who is who because drakes have a curl on the end of their tail and are bigger. See Donald on the right with the curl?

Donald has been begging for my attention but it took me weeks to understand what he really wanted. I thought he wanted his first swiming dish filled with clean water. Nope. I refilled the dish with clean water but he still pinched my fingers, my hands, and my arms, quacking up a storm.

One day I thought to let them out for their first time and let them roam under my watchful eye. It was worse! He pinched my socks and the hem of my dress. One time I was barefooted and he pinched my toes. Ouch! As a relex reaction, I play pushed him and he got animated. He played back, trying to jump in my lap. A light went off in my brain. Does Donald want to be hugged?

Oh, yes! I hugged him to my chest and he snuggled, SNUGGLED, mind you, and nestled there for a few moments. I set him down and he ran off to get more bugs and weeds. Whoever imagined my Donald would want me to give him a snuggle? The below pic is of me keeping Donald from biting my toes!

Until next time, we play at Fowl Play Farm~
